Week of 12/4/17

It's the most wonderful time of the year!!  Please remember to send your children in coats, hats and anything else you deem appropriate so that we are able to continue to enjoy this beautiful weather!

This week in math we will be working on Adding numbers up to 10.  In Phonics we will focus on Long Vowel sounds.  Handwriting will be a focus on their names and the sight words for the week.

Please continue to read with your children nightly as well as set out a few minutes a day to work on IXL.

Our Holiday show is quickly approaching!!  All Pre-k students were given a line to recite in the performance.  These lines were sent home Friday in their homework folders.  The lyrics to all the songs were emailed to you last week.  Please let me know if I need to have it resent to you.  Please utilize the CD as well as the lyrics and lines to rehearse with your children daily.

All children are required to wear a red polo shirt to the performance with khaki pants.  Please be advised the shirt needs to be a plain red polo, not a uniform maroon shirt.

11/13/17
We are off to a great start to the new trimester!  You should have received your child's report card in their homework folder last Friday.  There was also a half sheet of paper inside of the envelope.  Please review your child's report card and complete the form enclosed prior to our conference Thursday!  I am looking forward to meeting with all of you!  Please keep in mind that we are on a tight schedule and there are only 20 minutes allotted to each family.  Please make sure that you are on time and have all of your questions or concerns prepared.  It would be great if you all could send the conference forms back prior to our meeting so that we can ensure everything is addressed in a timely fashion.

The next few weeks we will continue to work with the 10 frame in math, reviewing the concepts we already learned.  Beginning the first week of December we will begin using the 10 frame and our strategies of constructing numbers to begin addition.  Please continue to go over different ways to make 5-10 with your children.  (3 yellow bears and 4 red bears equals 7, 5 and 0 equals 5, 7 blue and 2 green is 9)

We have begun working on vowels in phonics and handwriting.  Last week we focused on the Long and Short Aa sound.  Please continue to go over these concepts in everyday conversations using Long and Short; not Big and Little.  We are not only looking at words that begin with these sounds, but also words that have these sounds in them. (3 and 4 letter words)

Please continue to help your children master their sight words.  Please note, I do not assess them using the sheet, I use flash cards and show them in different orders.  Please use multiple samples to help your children learn these words, such as pointing them out in the books you read to them, in signs, grocery stores, Television, the options are endless.  I appreciate all the time you are putting into helping your children with homework and sight words.  It truly shows that the learning is continuing when they go home each night!

Next week will be a short week due to the Thanksgiving Holiday!  We will only be in school Monday and Tuesday.  I will send a packet home on Tuesday.  This packet will be a review of everything we have learned thus far and will replace the normal homework packet for the week!

Please remember the weather is changing, please ensure you update your children's change of clothes to weather appropriate items.  Please also make sure your child has a full change of clothing at school.

Your children came home with information on our popcorn fundraiser as well as reminders for boxtops.  Please continue to send the boxtops in, right now we are in second place for the competition.

Welcome to Trimester 2!!!!

Hello all!!
Welcome to the 2nd Trimester.  Your babies worked so hard the first part of the year learning a new routine and getting on board with new expectations!  Thank you so much for your continued dedication to your children!  Report cards will be released this Friday!  You will receive a form to fill out for conferences which are scheduled for Thursday Novembers 16 2017.  If you have not already signed up electronically, please make sure you schedule an appointment as soon as possible.  It is very important that I meet with each one of you so that we can discuss your students progress thus far and set goals for the new Trimester.
Please look at the updated class schedule, while I understand that life happens, please make every effort to have your children in class ready to work from 9am until 330pm.

Back by Popular Demand!!!!!
I have moved the mailboxes up to our "classroom", please begin checking them daily.  Also do not forget to write your encouraging notes to your children.

This week in Pre-K we will begin Vowels!!! Your child will be learning the different sounds and uses of Aa this week.  In math we will continue our number construction.  If you need assistance with completing this homework please see me so that we can come up with strategies that work!

Please note that Spanish is every Monday and Wednesday.  If they have homework it will be due by the next class day.

Class Do Jo
If you do not have the app on your phone, please install it ASAP.  This trimester Class Dojo will be utilized a lot more.  We will accumulate points throughout the entire trimester and have a big party, based on results at the end.
